Amid ongoing tensions between tech billionaire Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump, the president made a surprising statement during a recent Fox News interview, calling Musk “a great guy” and expressing confidence in his future success — despite their recent and highly publicized feud.

Musk, who served as a senior advisor to President Trump until May 2025, stepped away from his role following disagreements over a Republican-backed tax reform package, informally dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.” The bill, which primarily focuses on aggressive tax cuts, has sparked controversy in both political and business circles — and Musk has emerged as one of its most vocal critics.
“I think Elon is a smart guy and he’s going to do well,” President Trump said during his interview with journalist Maria Bartiromo. “He campaigned with me, he helped in a lot of ways. But he got upset, and frankly, I don’t think that reaction was appropriate.”
When asked about the falling-out, Trump pointed to the federal push toward electric vehicle mandates as one of the main reasons for Musk’s discontent. “The EV mandate is tough on him,” Trump admitted. “I don’t want to force everyone to drive electric cars. People should have choices.”
Tensions between the two escalated online, with Musk openly criticizing the tax bill on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). Calling the legislation “utterly insane,” Musk claimed it could lead to the loss of millions of American jobs and “strategic harm to the country.” He also posted — and later deleted — a message referencing Trump’s alleged ties to the Epstein investigation.Despite opposition from three Republican senators, the bill narrowly passed the Senate with a 51-49 vote. It is now headed to the House of Representatives for further approval before it can become law.
