Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tax-and-spending legislation, warning that the Republican Party is putting its future at risk by supporting the controversial measure.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, Musk labeled the proposed bill a “political suicide for the Republican Party,” citing polling data that reportedly shows waning public support for the initiative. The remarks were first reported by The Hill, which noted that Musk didn’t hold back in voicing his concerns.
He further denounced the Senate’s draft as “utterly insane and destructive,” warning that it could “destroy millions of American jobs” and lead to “massive strategic damage” to the nation.
This isn’t Musk’s first criticism of the proposal. In early June, he branded it a “disgusting abomination,” taking aim at lawmakers who supported it and accusing them of betraying public trust.
Despite pushback from within their own ranks, Senate Republicans moved the 1,000-page bill forward on Saturday. Senators Rand Paul and Thom Tillis expressed strong objections, citing a potential $5 trillion increase in national debt and significant cuts to Medicaid funding in North Carolina, respectively.
The debate over the bill comes amid growing conservative divisions. Meanwhile, Trump has reportedly encouraged Senate Republicans to override procedural objections and pass the legislation, aiming to cement his economic agenda before the next election cycle.
The political fallout continues to grow as critics like Musk call for a serious reevaluation of the policy’s long-term impact on American jobs, healthcare, and economic stability.
