In a significant development, recent US intelligence assessments suggest that Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been seriously impacted by recent military operations, reportedly delaying its program by nearly two years.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed on Wednesday, “We have degraded their program by one to two years at least… intel assessments inside the department assess that.” He added that current estimates lean “probably closer to two years
The major blow to Iran’s nuclear efforts came last month when the US launched targeted strikes on key facilities. According to defense sources, B-2 stealth bombers dropped GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs on two major nuclear sites, while a third location was hit by Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from a US submarine.
Adding to the pressure, Israel carried out a large-scale air assault on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear infrastructure, prominent scientists, and senior military officials. While Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, the US and its allies remain concerned over its potential to develop nuclear weapons.
The military campaign involved more than 125 American aircraft, including stealth bombers, fighter jets, refueling planes, and support from a missile-equipped submarine.
Although former President Donald Trump initially pursued diplomatic routes after withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal, rising tensions ultimately led to direct military intervention.
This strategic operation marks one of the most significant recent escalations in efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
