Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed launching a missile attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as retaliation for recent American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The operation, officially named “Annunciation of Victory,” was reported by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
Flares lit up the skies over Doha Monday night, with loud explosions heard across the capital. It remained unclear whether the flares were defensive countermeasures or part of the missile strike.
In response, Qatar temporarily closed its airspace, citing civilian safety. Meanwhile, the US and UK embassies advised citizens to shelter in place, signaling high alert in the region.

Al Udeid: US Military Stronghold in the Gulf Under Spotlight
The Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, now the focal point of rising tensions, is the largest US military installation in the Middle East, operational since 1996. Spanning over 24 hectares, it hosts around 10,000 troops and nearly 100 aircraft and drones, playing a key role in US-led operations across Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. It also serves as the forward headquarters for US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Beyond Qatar, the US maintains a significant military footprint in Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia — forming a strategic network for air, naval, intelligence, and logistical operations throughout the region.
